Chrysler spot to feature Berry Gordy (you should know who he is, but you probably don’t)

In 2011, Chrysler made waves (in a good way) with its now epic “Imported from Detroit” spot starring rapper Eminem. Last year, they added Clint Eastwood to the mix. It wasn’t really as good as the Eminem spot, but it was still a good effort.

This year, the auto maker will feature Motown Records founder Berry Gordy in its big game spot. The 83-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will wrap up the 60-second ad with the line “We are Motown, and this is what we do.”

The ad will promote both the new 2013 Chrysler 300 Motown Edition as well as an upcoming Broadway musical based on Gordy’s life.

I’m not sure how great this Gordy spot will be. After all, he’s not nearly as recognizable as Eminem or Mr. Eastwood, but I’ve got faith that they’ll find a way to pull this off. Do you?
