HomeAway made its Super Bowl debut last year with a much-hyped rehashing of the National Lampoon’s movies with spots starring the Griswolds themselves, Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo. That set the bar pretty high, which is probably why they’re coming in well under that level of excitement with this year’s “Ministry of Detourism” spot.
The ad, set to air in the third quarter, will use last year’s social media formula, which saw a Clark Griswold Twitter account. On Friday, HomeAway put out a tongue-in-cheek press release in which it came clean about “reports that Wiki-Peeks.org (no relation to WikiLeaks)” was about to release details of its involvement in the fictitious “Ministry of Detourism.”
A sneak peek of the campaign can be seen below. Yawn.
