SORRY YO YO, HYUNDAI RETHINKS SUPER BOWL LINE-UP

Hyundai, who purchased two spots in this year’s game, had previously announced plans to feature racer Rhys Millen putting a Hyundai to the test to the sounds of cellist Yo Yo Ma. The other spot, they promised, would feature a “surprise guest artist.” We’ve learned now that the surprise artist is Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan (does the car time warp back to 1995?).

But neither ad will be featured in the Super Bowl. Corgan’s spot will run during the pre-game show and Yo Yo’s spot will be pushed to the Academy Awards on February 22.

Instead, one Hyundai ad will promote the 2009 Genesis sedan’s “Car of the Year” distinction and the other will take an economic turn by highlighting the company’s “Hyundai Assurance” program, which allows nervous car buyers to return their Hyundai if they lose their source of income during the first year of ownership.

HOLY SMOKES this is going to be a depressing Super Bowl. Where are the Jessica Simpsons dancing through Pizza Hut? Where’s the Coke drinking soda without a shirt, outside the office full of swooning women? Where are the super models? Are we too serious now, as a nation, for an up and coming super model to hawk soda? Is no one willing to use unrelated sexuality to sell a product?

    Oh wait…GoDaddy. There’s always GoDaddy.

And PETA, but NBC has “standards.”
