The E*TRADE baby has been a Super Bowl mainstay since 2008 and although the original baby has retired, a new investment-savvy infant has stepped in to fill his baby booties. We recently sat down with the pudgy little guy for an exclusive interview to discuss the fast-paced life of America’s favorite talking tot.

1. What’s up, baby? Thanks for agreeing to spend some time with us.

Anytime, dude.

2. So what’s it like being the “new baby?” Are you adjusting to the fame and fortune?

It can be awkward at times. Everyone looks at you like, shouldn’t you be at a photo shoot or something? I’m just a regular guy with a regular life. I put my diaper on the same way you do.  Oh, wait, scratch that last part.

3. What advice did the old baby give you about stepping in and doing his job?

Eh, not too much. Told me not to let the fame get to my head. Told me to plan for retirement, it comes quicker than you think. Told me to do it all on E*TRADE because, and I quote, “diversification is king, Sanchez.”  Yah whatever … he’s a wise dude but I dance to my own drummer.

4. Will you be at the Big Game?

Yep. Everyone’s daring me to streak across the football field buck naked.  I am told it can only help my future political career.

5. We have to ask… you can talk, you can use a computer, you’re even buying and selling stock online. How are you doing with the whole “potty training” thing?

You know what they say at E*TRADE, you gotta take control; liberate yourself – they’re talking finance and investing, but you know, they’re words to live by really.

6. I noticed you have a BabyMail app that lets people send personal messages using you and other babies as the voice. It seems like if you have bad news to tell someone, having a baby deliver it might help soften the blow, would it not?

In this economy, if I can soften the blow to anything (while touting the virtues of E*TRADE), I will be a success. And yes, BabyMail is the best way to break up with your girlfriend. Having your heart broken is much easier when it comes from a pudgy little nub that makes googley sounds.

7. You clearly have America by the heartstrings, but not everyone is a fan of your work. Anything you’d like to say to your critics in response?

We mock what we do not understand. I always say “Don’t hate the player, hate the game,” you know what I’m sayin?

8. Well, thanks for hanging out with us and doing this interview, and good luck in SpotBowl!

The pleasure is all mine. And if you’re gonna post a picture of me with this interview or something lame like that, make sure it’s not a profile shot. My chin is nonexistent. Rock the Vote people!

As many of you know, the E*Trade baby stepped into the  spotlight (and our hearts) during last year’s Super Bowl. Since then, he’s appeared in many different commercials for the online stock trader and we have to admit, he’s one cool kid. We’d totally hang out with him. We might not get into any good bars, but it’s all good.

Anyhow, SpotBowl reached out to the folks at E*Trade and asked for an interview with the web-surfin’ infant and, as luck would have it, the little dude was able to spare a few minutes of time to answer some of our questions. We’re pretty sure no one has ever interviewed the E*Trade baby before, so a big thanks goes out to them for giving us this rare opportunity.

SPOTBOWL: Thanks for taking some time to sit down with us. We know you’re probably pretty busy.

E*TRADE BABY: Look, I can always squeeze in an interview as long as I know there’s a fat stack of benjamins waiting on the other side.

SB: We feel bad having to ask this, but what’s your name?

EB: That’s the thing. I could tell you. But then I’d have to … well, you know how that goes.

SB: Another year, another Super Bowl commercial. What’s that whole process like?

EB: It’s a bit like childbirth, really. I should know, I just went through it.

SB: Being in the Super Bowl has made you one of the most famous babies in America. How’s that working out for you?

EB: I gotta be honest, fame isn’t easy.  You got dudes trying to jack your style.  Paparazzi in your grill all day.

SB: You probably get recognized a lot. A lot of autographs and pictures, right?

EB: Yes, but my eyes are sensitive to bright lights, so I encourage my fans not to use a flash.

SB: Any advice for other babies out there who might want to break into the acting business?

EB: Don’t study method acting. It can be very difficult and you have to drag up a lot of demons from your past.  But the truth is, I’m not an actor.  I’m an investor who digs filming myself on my webcam.

SB: Shifting gears to an inevitable topic: How are you weathering this whole “down economy” thing?

EB: For me, I just keep moving and shaking.  And on days when the Dow’s down triple digits, I just escape to the studio and write song lyrics.

SB: Where are you watching the Super Bowl? You partying down in Tampa?

EB: There’s this dude I grew up with – he’s throwing sort of a small house party. Should be pretty mellow.

SB: Hey, we know your time is valuable. You’ve probably got a nap to take, but we just wanted to thank you for hanging out with us. It’s been fun.

EB: The nap comment seems a bit unwarranted. I’ve got surprising stamina.

It’s been confirmed that E*Trade’s talking baby will be making a return appearance in this year’s Super Bowl. Below is a peek at some of the stuff that won’t be seen, but still entertaining. E*Trade has expanded the baby campaign to include a YouTube page, Facebook page and a Twitter account. Sorry MySpace, you’re soooo 2008.
