Even if you’re not in the market to buy a new car, chances are good that you’ll want to do whatever it takes to keep the one you’ve got running strong. That’s why the folks at Castrol have signed on to play in the Super Bowl ad game. The spot will promote its new advanced synthetic motor oil, Castrol Edge.
We’re hoping they take a different approach than the typical motor oil commercials, which are, let’s face it, not that great. Here are the ingredients of pretty much every motor oil spot: cars revving their engines under the watchful eye of men in white lab coats, animated graphics showing pistons pumping furiously, one engine using the competitor’s motor oil sputters to a stop while the other keeps on going.
Actually Castrol Edge has produced some decent spots. This is not the spot that will air during the Super Bowl, but it’d be kind of funny if it were:
