RUMOR MILL: MCDONALDS TO REMAKE JORDAN/BIRD H-O-R-S-E AD FOR SB44?

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

McDonalds might be making an appearance in this year’s game with a remake of thier 1993 classic Super Bowl spot featuring Michael Jordan and Larry Bird facing off in an epic game of H-O-R-S-E. But that’s a big M-A-Y-B-E.

What we know is that LeBron James, Dwight Howard and Bird have recently convened in Indianapolis to tape the spot. What we don’t know, is whether the spot will air during this year’s big game. What we also don’t know is why they invited Larry Bird to be a part of the remake but snubbed MJ (or why MJ turned down the invite). How cool would it have been to have LeBron and Howard facing off against the two legends in a game of doubles H-O-R-S-E? (Answer: Pretty freakin’ cool.)

If the spot does air in SB44, it’ll be King James’ third Super Bowl appearance, including a 2005 Bubblicious spot and a 2009 State Farm ad.

THE GREATEST ADS EVER

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

The article isn’t new, but the New York Daily News has an online compendium of some of the most memorable Super Bowl ads of all time (including video). The line-up includes the 1999 Doritos spot that made Ali Landry a star (for a little while at least), the Michael Jordan/Larry Bird “Nothin’ but net” shootout from 1993 and, of course, Apple’s epic jaw-dropper from 1984.
