Variety.com just broke the news that even though the economy is slumping, the movie studios are still pulling out all the stops with a slew of movie trailers in this year’s Super Bowl. According to the article, here’s what we’ll be seeing in the game:
PARAMOUNT PICTURES (3 30-second spots) – The studio will promote a trio of blockbusters, including “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” “Star Trek” and the long-awaited live-action adaptation of the classic 80’s cartoon “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra”.
SONY PICTURES (1 30-second spot) – Sony will air a trailer for “Angels & Demons” starring Tom Hanks. The drama/thriller is a sequel to The Da Vinci Code and based on a book by Dan Brown.
UNIVERSAL STUDIOS (2 30-second spots) – Universal will use the big game to showcase two of it biggest upcoming films, “Land of the Lost” (starring Will Ferrell) and the fourth installment of “The Fast and the Furious” (this time titled “Fast & Furious”), which sees a return of Vin Diesel.
UPDATE: Disney Pixar has also announced that they will purchase a 30-second spot to promote it’s next animated feature, “Up.”
The Variety article also speculates that lowered prices for ads as NBC races to sell the remaining slots may result in more movie promos in this year’s game. And yes, the Land of the Lost movie is based on the original awesome 70s TV show, only much less cheesy. (Is that a good thing?)
